Hi, welcome to the Armed Guardian Podcast.

00:01:14.269 --> 00:01:17.590
Today, crystal and I will be talking about summer preparedness.

00:01:17.590 --> 00:01:23.293
Are you being proactive in your planning to be prepared for travel and concealed carry?

00:01:23.293 --> 00:01:27.191
So joining us today is just me and Crystal.

00:01:27.191 --> 00:01:32.893
David's not able to be with us, but we'll be doing some things with him a little bit later.

00:01:32.893 --> 00:01:39.313
He's had a few things on his plate, but looking forward to get back into the swing of things here.

00:01:39.313 --> 00:01:41.206
So how are you doing today, crystal?

00:01:42.007 --> 00:01:42.811
I'm doing wonderful.

00:01:42.811 --> 00:01:44.605
I really can't believe it's already going to be summer.

00:01:44.605 --> 00:01:50.070
It's just right around the corner and we just started this year off and it's already just flying past.

00:01:51.700 --> 00:01:53.246
Yeah, the summer heat.

00:01:53.246 --> 00:02:02.409
I don't miss it from whenever I live down in South Florida and it's nice to have the summer and the sun, but the heat they can keep it.

00:02:03.271 --> 00:02:04.132
Oh, absolutely.

00:02:05.814 --> 00:02:06.155
All right.

00:02:06.155 --> 00:02:10.312
Well, I thought about whenever I was doing my business newsletter.

00:02:10.312 --> 00:02:20.449
I did a little small blog or section on summer preparedness, being prepared, and I thought it would be a good topic for the podcast today.

00:02:20.449 --> 00:02:35.610
And, of course, I reached out to you and you agreed and I just wanted to talk about some things that people may not be thinking about whenever they're preparing for their summer travel, vacations, having guests come in.

00:02:35.610 --> 00:02:48.411
So that's kind of what we wanted to discuss here and get your thoughts and just kind of get the word out there for people to think, which is what I wanted the podcast to be about.

00:02:48.411 --> 00:03:03.546
So what are some things that you can think of right off the top of your head that you tend, you see, or you maybe even yourself forget about whenever you're planning your vacation or your your travel time away from home?

00:03:03.546 --> 00:03:08.352
What are some things that pop into your head that people might forget?

00:03:09.622 --> 00:03:11.514
Well, first of all, let's talk about the home.

00:03:12.139 --> 00:03:12.280
Right.

00:03:12.360 --> 00:03:18.885
So a lot of times people are online posting about their trip to wherever they're going to be at, letting people know they're going to be away.

00:03:18.885 --> 00:03:22.711
You know they're counting down five more days of my vacation, three more days.

00:03:22.711 --> 00:03:31.427
Today's the day and now you have people that know that your home is going to be another fire truck going by.

00:03:31.427 --> 00:03:35.395
Sorry about that, yeah.

00:03:35.395 --> 00:03:36.161
So, that you know.

00:03:36.161 --> 00:03:39.228
You're just announcing that you're going to be away from the home.

00:03:39.669 --> 00:03:39.929
Right.

00:03:40.349 --> 00:03:44.552
And that can be, you know, a bad situation you got.

00:03:44.552 --> 00:03:46.060
A person wants to burglarize your home.

00:03:46.060 --> 00:03:49.129
Now you just gave them the open door to do so.

00:03:49.129 --> 00:03:57.326
So just remember, if you are going away, not to announce it all over social media, and if you have firearms at home, that's even a bigger problem.

00:03:57.326 --> 00:04:06.471
If you don't have them safely secured, you have a break in and you have your firearm sitting on the table or an addresser.

00:04:08.032 --> 00:04:23.685
you know that can be an issue yeah but, uh, but I do see that a lot people are just announcing that they're going to be away from home, firearms being uh, sitting on tables in different locations throughout the house, and we don't want those firearms out on the streets.

00:04:24.567 --> 00:04:38.137
Right, yeah, and there's something that people can think of that a lot of agencies or a lot of law enforcement agencies communities do is house checks for people that are on vacation.

00:04:38.137 --> 00:04:47.309
I know whenever I worked in Florida and even up here in Georgia in law enforcement, we would have people that would call and say, hey, I'm going on vacation.

00:04:47.309 --> 00:04:50.567
From this time, my house will be vacant.

00:04:50.567 --> 00:04:55.291
Can you have an officer ride by and check it whenever you're able to?

00:04:55.291 --> 00:05:02.814
And here's my emergency contact If something is wrong or they find something that doesn't look right, these are the people that can either contact me or get in contact with other family that doesn't look right.

00:05:03.615 --> 00:05:10.913
These are the people that can either contact me or get in contact with other family that didn't go on vacation with you or friends.

00:05:10.913 --> 00:05:29.194
And that's something that a lot of departments do free of service, and it's something that the officers do when they have time, of course, understanding that they are busy and there may be a day that they don't get by the house, but that's one option for people to consider if they're going on vacation.

00:05:29.194 --> 00:05:42.790
And then also staging timers for lights in the home to come on and off, music, to come on TV, to pop on things like that to make it look like somebody's there.

00:05:42.790 --> 00:05:45.168
Have a friend or something.

00:05:45.168 --> 00:05:52.269
If they've got a spare vehicle, pull it into the driveway periodically and just move things around.

00:05:52.269 --> 00:05:54.689
Make it look like somebody is there.

00:05:54.689 --> 00:05:57.206
Deterrence is the big thing.

00:05:57.439 --> 00:06:00.305
Oh yeah, I agree, I talk about that in my classes as well.

00:06:00.305 --> 00:06:02.985
Staging your homes the police departments are great.

00:06:02.985 --> 00:06:04.144
A lot of times they'll do that.

00:06:04.144 --> 00:06:07.831
They'll come out, like you said, absolutely free and do a check.

00:06:07.831 --> 00:06:09.115
Neighbors too.

00:06:09.115 --> 00:06:20.029
If you have good neighbors that you can trust, they're a good asset to have as well to go and check and make sure everything's secure, keeping those timers on so the lights look like they're coming on and off.

00:06:20.029 --> 00:06:25.187
Another thing is, if you're getting mail, have the post office hold your mail so you don't have it piling up.

00:06:25.187 --> 00:06:32.627
If you just have a regular mailbox where somebody can go by and say you know, there's a lot of mail here right there's probably nobody home.

00:06:32.708 --> 00:06:35.021
I mean, back in the day that was newspapers on your front door.

00:06:35.021 --> 00:06:36.305
I say, collect those newspapers.

00:06:36.305 --> 00:06:39.083
But you know, I don't know that too many people have those delivers anymore.

00:06:39.083 --> 00:06:40.526
It's all online.

00:06:40.526 --> 00:06:42.911
But that's just another thing.

00:06:42.992 --> 00:06:56.254
Is you know, that I recommend doing is holding your mail right, yeah, uh, so no, that's pretty much all that I can think of on the home front.

00:06:56.254 --> 00:07:06.540
Uh, you know, if you're going to be going for an extended time, you may want to plan to have somebody pay a neighborhood kid or something to mow your yard or something.

00:07:06.639 --> 00:07:11.692
So it looks upkept that you know someone doesn't see how the grass hasn't been mowed in a week.

00:07:11.692 --> 00:07:16.987
Someone must not be home, so that's, that's another thing.

00:07:16.987 --> 00:07:24.442
So, preparing for travel let's talk about that for a moment.

00:07:24.442 --> 00:07:31.992
As you you are preparing, we get caught up in trying to make sure we're packing everything that we're going to need.

00:07:31.992 --> 00:07:42.608
Maybe confirming our reservations where we're going A lot of times you may forget about, depending on how you're traveling too, is going to be a big thing.

00:07:42.608 --> 00:07:52.964
But let's say you're going on vacation in your vehicle and you're a concealed carrier, what states are you going to be passing through and what are their laws?

00:07:52.964 --> 00:07:54.891
Each state has different laws.

00:07:54.891 --> 00:08:00.384
Some states you may carry concealed with your reciprocity, if you have a permit.

00:08:00.384 --> 00:08:06.480
If you're going constitutional constitutional does that state recognize non-resident constitutional carry?

00:08:06.480 --> 00:08:24.391
Um, some things to think about, and a lot of people that's one of the things they don't think about they say we're going on vacation, I'm gonna carry my gun and they may get in trouble because magazine limits ammo restrictions um yeah, duty to inform.

00:08:24.892 --> 00:08:25.555
Right, yeah.

00:08:25.915 --> 00:08:26.677
Definitely.

00:08:26.677 --> 00:08:29.684
Yeah, you have to know the laws for each state that you're passing through.

00:08:29.684 --> 00:08:30.985
Very important.

00:08:30.985 --> 00:08:36.245
And another you know is keeping your firearm safely secured in your vehicle as well.

00:08:36.245 --> 00:08:37.047
So have a safe.

00:08:37.047 --> 00:08:45.813
So if you go to a location that you're not allowed to carry that firearm and you want to make sure that you have a safe for it in your vehicle.

00:08:49.361 --> 00:08:53.630
What are some ways that you check on the laws and the reciprocity?

00:08:53.630 --> 00:09:01.373
Do you have a specific app that you prefer or a website that you prefer using to check on anything like that?

00:09:02.201 --> 00:09:02.741
I sure do.

00:09:02.741 --> 00:09:05.669
I use the USCCA app, so I have that on my phone.

00:09:05.669 --> 00:09:07.721
It's so easy to use.

00:09:07.721 --> 00:09:13.683
You just punch in your state and it will give you all the information that you need for the other states you're going to visit.

00:09:13.683 --> 00:09:15.969
So I recommend that app to everyone.

00:09:16.350 --> 00:09:27.644
Yeah, yeah, that's one of the apps that I use, and even on the website for people that may not have a smartphone website, for people that may not have a smartphone, that I tell them.

00:09:27.644 --> 00:09:35.605
You know, you can always go online on a regular laptop, desktop and pull up the same information, um, you know, check if you've got the self-defense coverage.

00:09:35.605 --> 00:09:48.674
You know, maybe your uh provider like right to bear, like I use, is, um, you can call their attorney hotline or their hotline and you can even ask questions.

00:09:48.674 --> 00:09:49.822
Hey, what's the laws?

00:09:49.822 --> 00:09:51.043
Here I'm traveling?

00:09:51.043 --> 00:09:58.302
What do I need to consider as far as safe passage Carry laws?

00:09:58.302 --> 00:10:00.307
What restrictions do I need to be aware of?

00:10:00.708 --> 00:10:08.158
And there'll be a team that will research and get back with you, as you're a member of their right to bear.

00:10:08.158 --> 00:10:31.376
But just calling and checking, even calling directly to the if you're going to, let's say, philadelphia, pennsylvania, and you're going to be staying there for a while, call the local law enforcement agency in the community that you're going to be staying at and say, hey, I'm going to be traveling on vacation, staying here for X number of days.

00:10:31.376 --> 00:10:35.556
What laws do I need to be concerned with in your jurisdiction?

00:10:35.556 --> 00:10:40.368
Just being well-informed is a big thing.

00:10:40.368 --> 00:10:42.149
That's just being well informed is a big thing.

00:10:42.149 --> 00:10:52.921
So anything else you can think of on as far as the traveling by car and stuff like that, Not that I know I don't think so.

00:10:53.480 --> 00:11:06.836
OK, but then we also maybe we're not traveling by car, we're traveling by plane, boat, train, bus, being familiar with especially airline TSA requirements.

00:11:06.836 --> 00:11:11.485
A lot of people I've been seeing, especially up in Atlanta Hartfield.

00:11:11.485 --> 00:11:23.298
There's been a number of people here recently that have gotten into trouble for carrying a firearm that should have been checked in and secured and everything.

00:11:23.298 --> 00:11:35.416
And then there's recently over in the Turks where the people have gotten ammo that they forgot about in one of their bags.

00:11:36.645 --> 00:12:03.299
Just knowing those laws for overseas or foreign travel and then for public travel, like with the TSA, knowing that you've got to have your ammunition separate from your firearm and it's got to be unloaded and secured, locked, and all that stuff, a lot of things that people just they put off, that maybe they think about it but it's not foremost in their mind to check up on.

00:12:03.299 --> 00:12:09.993
So that's another big, big thing for them to to look into as they're preparing to travel.

00:12:11.014 --> 00:12:11.635
And then some.

00:12:11.635 --> 00:12:14.972
I'm sorry, but sometimes people forget to have a gun in their bag.

00:12:14.972 --> 00:12:18.215
They're like, oh I forgot I had this gun in my bag and you know I just switched bags.

00:12:18.215 --> 00:12:19.288
I didn't even realize it was there.

00:12:19.288 --> 00:12:21.193
So double check your bags.

00:12:21.193 --> 00:12:23.500
Make sure there's nothing in there that's prohibited.

00:12:23.581 --> 00:12:46.499
It can get you into a lot of trouble right, um, and it can be hard, but especially for somebody that does do edc or everyday carry, because it becomes a part of them and they don't think about it, they just second nature, are carrying and, but they forget that they have to declare or they can't carry in a certain location.

00:12:46.499 --> 00:12:59.976
I've had that happen to me once before went to a location that I couldn't carry inside, jumped out of the car, started to go in and realized that I couldn't take my firearm in there.

00:12:59.976 --> 00:13:08.429
So I had to go back to the car, secure it and could have been in some legal trouble.

00:13:08.570 --> 00:13:09.511
But uh, if I would have went inside.

00:13:09.532 --> 00:13:14.410
But uh, just trying to remember and being concealed, carrying concealed, we have to.

00:13:14.410 --> 00:13:28.450
We have a lot of things running through our mind situational awareness, uh, laws, uh, and day-to-day stuff that we have running through our mind that we don't always multitask as good as we should sometimes.

00:13:29.693 --> 00:13:30.235
That's right.

00:13:32.966 --> 00:13:46.294
So, as we're traveling, we briefly talked about magazine limits and ammunition restrictions, knowing that there's a lot of different states that have those restrictions, uh, being aware of them.

00:13:46.294 --> 00:14:04.236
Um, first aid, tourniquet, chest seals, uh, you know, not necessarily just for your uh, everyday carry, for gunshot wounds, but, you know, having a first aid kit in your vehicle, your backpack, or something for your travels, for those minor cuts, scrap, scrapes and bruises and stuff.

00:14:04.236 --> 00:14:07.253
What's your first aid kit?

00:14:07.253 --> 00:14:09.633
Look like I know you probably have several.

00:14:09.633 --> 00:14:18.495
You have your range one, I'm sure, because of your instruction, do you have one that you keep in your vehicle for your travel, whenever you travel?

00:14:19.096 --> 00:14:19.538
I sure do.

00:14:19.538 --> 00:14:21.029
So I have in my vehicle.

00:14:21.029 --> 00:14:21.572
I have.

00:14:21.572 --> 00:14:23.870
I always keep a tourniquet in my bag.

00:14:23.870 --> 00:14:25.717
So on my personal I always have a tourniquet.

00:14:25.717 --> 00:14:37.687
Then I have a little small little first aid kit band-aids and things of that nature, medications too, when you're traveling, to make sure that you don't forget those medications, because it might be difficult for you to get some, get them outside of your state.

00:14:37.687 --> 00:14:41.072
So make sure you have those medications that you need on you.

00:14:41.072 --> 00:14:43.096
But yeah, just keep a little.

00:14:43.096 --> 00:14:46.347
You don't need something huge, you know, but just get something.

00:14:46.347 --> 00:14:56.087
If you personally carry, that's easy to pack and just have it with you on vacation, cause you never know when something happens, even if you're going out for a hike somewhere and then you fall and you scrape your knee.

00:14:56.087 --> 00:14:58.750
If you're on blood thinners, that could be a problem for you.

00:14:58.750 --> 00:15:03.014
So just make sure you have them handy and they're fairly cheap.

00:15:03.014 --> 00:15:07.801
If you don't have one, you can go online and grab it off Amazon just to have something on you.

00:15:10.533 --> 00:15:22.379
Yeah, and actually I know that there are several online places or stores that you can actually get some.

00:15:22.379 --> 00:15:28.812
They're not top of the line, but they're good little travel kits that you can get and those would suffice.

00:15:28.812 --> 00:15:37.836
The only thing you'd have, like you said, having a tourniquet, maybe having some gauze with quick pot or something on it to stop the bleeding.

00:15:38.105 --> 00:15:40.451
But, yeah, you can get a fairly cheap.

00:15:40.451 --> 00:15:56.671
Yeah, but it's something to consider that most of us don't consider, um, so when we travel and we go somewhere, uh, some considerations that um we we need to look at, uh, hotels.

00:15:56.671 --> 00:15:59.115
Some hotels don't allow firearms.

00:15:59.115 --> 00:16:04.100
Some states enforce no firearm signs, some don't.

00:16:04.100 --> 00:16:07.333
What are the hotel policies?

00:16:07.333 --> 00:16:16.475
And then also, we're traveling, we're on vacation, theme parks A lot of theme parks don't allow firearms or even knives.

00:16:16.865 --> 00:16:36.594
I went to Universal last year with two of my daughters and one of their boyfriends and we went there and I forgot that I had a pocket knife on me and went up there, went through their scanner and what do you got?

00:16:36.594 --> 00:16:40.255
And I'm thinking I put my firearm off, my pepper spray out.

00:16:40.255 --> 00:16:46.875
Then I felt in my pocket and had the pocket knife and had to go back to the car to put the pocket knife up because I didn't want to leave it in there.

00:16:46.875 --> 00:16:48.938
A little the bucket and hope to get it back.

00:16:49.580 --> 00:16:52.192
Exactly, yeah, I don't ever leave anything like that either, I agree.

00:16:52.192 --> 00:16:54.350
Well, I like to avoid those places anyway.

00:16:54.350 --> 00:16:55.413
I don't like the large crowds.

00:17:01.969 --> 00:17:04.022
But if I were to go, yeah, I wouldn't have those items on me, right?

00:17:04.022 --> 00:17:10.031
Yeah, checking with those theme parks what are their policies, what do they allow, don't allow?

00:17:10.031 --> 00:17:27.298
I guess, if you feel and chancy enough, you can try, but more than likely you're going to have to walk through the detectors and once you've set that thing off, then they're going to question a little bit more.

00:17:27.298 --> 00:17:33.057
So, just something to prevent a lot of delay in your family fun.

00:17:33.057 --> 00:17:37.614
And we talked a little bit about storage.

00:17:37.713 --> 00:18:04.471
But as you're traveling no, of course, in your vehicle, in your motel or you know, uh, if you're staying with family carrying a small safe uh to store your handgun, and especially if you're going to another family member relatives, uh, friends that has small children, you may want to have something that you can put your firearm in and keep there, but it's secure, where their kids can't get to it.

00:18:04.791 --> 00:18:08.799
And, um, do you what's your recommendation?

00:18:08.799 --> 00:18:16.028
Uh, I know you can get them real cheap at like Walmart, uh, for those, and that would be something great for something like that.

00:18:16.028 --> 00:18:35.140
You know, if you put something in your vehicle for great for something like that, if you put something in your vehicle for safe storage, you may want something a little bit better than the inexpensive safes that you can get at Walmart, but they make a plethora of different sizes and different styles that you can get for vehicles.

00:18:35.140 --> 00:18:52.252
Actually, you can get some that are molded into matching headrests for your vehicle, that a firearm, and I've seen, uh, not consoles, uh where you can put the safes in the consoles, and just uh, amazing what they can do with those right.

00:18:52.354 --> 00:18:58.231
I just had a little hornady one that I have for my vehicle and it's it's pretty sturdy.

00:18:58.231 --> 00:18:59.374
I've tried it out.

00:18:59.374 --> 00:19:00.336
It works really well.

00:19:00.336 --> 00:19:05.251
I tuck it away where people can't see it, so, and it's very affordable.

00:19:05.251 --> 00:19:08.117
I don't care what you spend.

00:19:08.117 --> 00:19:10.849
If something is better than nothing, right?

00:19:10.849 --> 00:19:13.237
So if you don't have anything at all, it's just sitting there.

00:19:13.237 --> 00:19:21.634
If you have something that's less expensive, but a good quality, not something that's like a really poor quality, they can stick a paper clip in and pop it open.

00:19:21.634 --> 00:19:24.285
Obviously, but one of decent quality.

00:19:24.285 --> 00:19:34.636
It's going to be harder for them, it's going to take more time to break in and more than likely they're going to run off if somebody comes out and scoops them right, yep, uh.

00:19:34.938 --> 00:19:43.419
So we, we've got travel, we've gotten to our destination, we've hopefully checked the laws and everything.

00:19:43.419 --> 00:19:49.330
What about financial consideration?

00:19:49.330 --> 00:20:06.555
I tell people, if you're traveling, have you a prepaid debit card, load what you need on it that way, if that card gets you know, keep it separate from your regular wallet, uh that way now, if something were to happen not all your money is tied up into.

00:20:07.096 --> 00:20:12.974
Well, now my vacation's ruined, I'm stuck here, uh, don't have any money, don't know if I can make it back home.

00:20:12.974 --> 00:20:16.990
Um, that's just one way knowing what you're going to spend.

00:20:16.990 --> 00:20:26.493
Or have yourself a limit and load that daily, or something that will help you to keep from having all your finances drained.

00:20:27.655 --> 00:20:28.718
Yeah.

00:20:29.578 --> 00:20:29.920
Go ahead.

00:20:30.365 --> 00:20:34.867
No, that's a great idea, but also the bank sometimes will put a hold on your account, thinking that it's fraud.

00:20:34.867 --> 00:20:44.192
That's happened to me before and the banks were closed and I'm like, oh, I'm at the gas station, I can't fill up, and the banks aren't answering and I'm like, oh, my goodness, the card was locked.

00:20:44.814 --> 00:20:53.336
Right, yeah, and I even recommend my students, whenever I teach, for their online purchases, even at home.

00:20:53.336 --> 00:20:56.019
Get you a prepaid debit card.

00:20:57.005 --> 00:20:59.348
Oh yeah, If you're going to buy something, use that.

00:20:59.348 --> 00:21:07.200
That way they don't have access to your regular bank or your regular credit card information and wipe you out that way.

00:21:07.200 --> 00:21:23.526
I had a daughter that got wiped out here recently because of a scam situation and it can be very hurtful financially and put you in a real bind.

00:21:23.526 --> 00:21:42.204
But, yeah, anything else on the financial aspect that you can think of, um, I know you can also call your bank and let them know that you're going, uh, traveling, going on vacation, because some, like you said, some they'll recognize, hey, they're not here normally and this may be a fraud situation.

00:21:42.204 --> 00:21:57.734
But if you call them and tell them, hey, I'm going to be in Ohio for a week during this time period connecting with them, it can at least let them know where you're going and that purchases may be showing up in that area.

00:21:58.526 --> 00:21:59.789
And don't be alarmed that.

00:21:59.789 --> 00:22:10.451
No, it's most likely you, but there's still a chance that skimmers and stuff like that people get access to your account, so anything.

00:22:10.471 --> 00:22:23.392
Yeah, so for people that carry cash, because I see that here I'm in Fort Lauderdale Beach, so we get a lot of tourists in here and they open up their wallet and they have a wad of cash yeah, it's like hide it, do you know?

00:22:23.432 --> 00:22:35.275
put a few bucks in it, but don't open up your wallet with a wad of cash because the wrong person might see that next thing you know you're being robbed, and I see that so many times, I've seen that so many times down here with the tourist.

00:22:35.275 --> 00:22:40.214
So keep your cash to a minimal, put in a different spot, different spot, you know.

00:22:40.214 --> 00:22:43.731
Don't keep it all in your wallet where somebody can see it and snatch it from you.

00:22:44.374 --> 00:22:55.898
Right, okay, yep, another thing to consider that some people don't is have a backup plan with your travel companion.

00:22:55.898 --> 00:23:01.076
You know, if you're going somewhere, plan a predestined.

00:23:01.076 --> 00:23:14.535
If you're going to split up every hour, send me a text or call me If there's an incident, where are we going to try to meet up at.

00:23:14.535 --> 00:23:21.991
And then also letting family know, even if you don't split up and you go as a family group uh and something were to happen?

00:23:21.991 --> 00:23:27.190
Uh, no, family and friends back home that know you're traveling.

00:23:27.190 --> 00:23:31.271
You know, keep in touch with them, check in with them, say, hey, we're here today.

00:23:31.271 --> 00:23:37.404
Uh, you know, even give them a little bit of a uh, what your journey or your itinerary was.

00:23:37.404 --> 00:23:39.067
Hey, we went here, we went there.

00:23:39.067 --> 00:23:41.851
And then have a safe word.

00:23:41.851 --> 00:23:54.489
You know where, if they, you were some, unfortunately, if you were abducted or held hostage or something they forced you to make a call like there has been.

00:23:54.489 --> 00:23:59.211
Have some sort of safe word to where people say if I say this word, there's a problem.

00:23:59.732 --> 00:24:00.355
Absolutely.

00:24:00.924 --> 00:24:03.133
And that's something to keep in touch.

00:24:03.133 --> 00:24:12.192
And then also you know you share your travel plans or your sites that you've seen and stuff with family and friends, so that would be something.

00:24:12.192 --> 00:24:25.248
And then going over situational awareness with your family A lot of times you go on vacation, like you said, somebody just not there, pulling out their wallet, buy something and they forget about checking their surroundings.

00:24:25.248 --> 00:24:32.690
Uh, pull up to a ATM in the middle of the night or go to the convenience store down from the hotel to grab something.

00:24:33.111 --> 00:24:35.055
They forget about situational awareness.

00:24:35.055 --> 00:24:42.018
It's a good reminder to uh, talk to everybody in your travel group about situational awareness.

00:24:42.018 --> 00:24:52.640
And then also, if you don't remember the topics or anything, there's a lot of things online that you can get to kind of fill in.

00:24:52.640 --> 00:24:57.073
Okay, let's think about this while we're traveling, when we're in a restaurant, let's do this.

00:24:57.073 --> 00:25:02.876
So you got anything else on any of those or anything that we've talked about?

00:25:03.826 --> 00:25:05.132
There's some apps to the.

00:25:05.132 --> 00:25:10.567
You know location sharing that you can share with your family If you want to turn that on, if you're in an area that will allow it.

00:25:10.567 --> 00:25:12.288
Those are also really good.

00:25:12.288 --> 00:25:20.635
Maybe you get tied up and you forget you're out hiking or doing something and you forget what time it is to check in on your hour or you know whatever you set that time period to be.

00:25:21.217 --> 00:25:21.477
Right.

00:25:21.517 --> 00:25:25.059
That way, they can watch and monitor your you know your steps.

00:25:25.059 --> 00:25:25.881
That's really important.

00:25:26.701 --> 00:25:43.460
Yeah, okay, anything else that you can think of as far as summer preparedness, I figured this would be a little quick episode for us to do and, you know, be like just a good reminder of some things for people to think about.

00:25:44.425 --> 00:25:55.357
Well, I know, going into your hotel room to make sure that you have that door locked, there's even devices you can buy for travel that you can prop up on the doors and make it harder for somebody to enter.

00:25:55.357 --> 00:25:57.310
So think about that.

00:25:57.310 --> 00:26:02.593
Like you know, keeping those doors locked, they have that little thing that goes over normally, that top lock.

00:26:02.593 --> 00:26:08.211
Make sure you have that engaged and purchase something that actually makes it a little bit more secure.

00:26:08.815 --> 00:26:16.184
Yeah Well, they even have the little travel alarms that you put on some of the doors that you know the alarm will go off with somebody.

00:26:16.184 --> 00:26:17.567
The door pops open.

00:26:17.567 --> 00:26:19.854
They, yeah, yeah.

00:26:19.874 --> 00:26:56.970
They got a lot of different things the a little plug, uh saber, uh product saber red has a has a lot of good uh travel things, uh that you know, for pepper spray alarms, uh, door alarms and stuff be a good thing to have and um no, if you have legal protection, make sure you're up to date, that you've got no coverage that you may need to uh go to these other States because understand that, not every there are some States that do not allow you to have self-defense insurance, uh, like Washington uh.

00:26:57.590 --> 00:27:00.715
Oregon, I think, and some others New York.

00:27:00.715 --> 00:27:17.980
So it's something that you need to be aware of that, if you are going to carry, am I protected and do I have the limits or is the policy going to cover my bail bond, my civil and criminal defense, things like that?

00:27:18.286 --> 00:27:23.837
And a lot of good self-defense insurance and legal protection plans out there.

00:27:23.837 --> 00:27:32.887
I recommend Right to Bear, as we've talked and I know USCCA Concealed Carry has some.

00:27:32.887 --> 00:27:35.415
There's a lot of different plans out there.

00:27:35.415 --> 00:27:39.654
Just research you know the plan, make sure it's going to fit what you need.

00:27:39.654 --> 00:27:49.809
Um, yeah, anything else you can think of crystal not off the top of my head I think that the heat's getting to me.

00:27:49.869 --> 00:27:54.258
I'm being, I'm being, uh baked out here yeah, I.

00:27:54.298 --> 00:27:59.924
That's why I wanted to try to go ahead and round round this up a little bit because you had to go outside.

00:27:59.924 --> 00:28:15.237
But, yeah, just if you go travel, enjoy yourself but plan ahead, stay situationally aware while you're on vacation, but don't forget your planning, your travel, your training.

00:28:15.237 --> 00:28:24.432
And while you're traveling, look up a firearms instructor to, you know, maybe take a small situational awareness or you know some course.

00:28:24.432 --> 00:28:27.406
Uh, you know, keep your training up, don't forget your training.

00:28:27.406 --> 00:28:40.157
Uh, you know, reach out to a local instructor or you know, either in your area or the traveling area that you're traveling to and see what um, you know what they've got going on.

00:28:40.157 --> 00:28:53.547
You know, nra, uscca, has the websites where you can check on training in your area that you're trapped now that you may be at, and, uh, it's a good thing to just stay informed and keep, uh, keep your training going.

00:28:53.586 --> 00:28:58.885
So, definitely, and I have an ebook that I put together every year for summer for the travels.

00:28:58.885 --> 00:29:03.298
So I think it's like 399.99 for my little e-book, but I do have it.

00:29:03.298 --> 00:29:07.957
If anybody was interested, we can share the link and they can order it, but it's a good one.

00:29:07.957 --> 00:29:13.497
It's geared more towards women, but it's something that can be, you know men can use it as well.

00:29:13.497 --> 00:29:18.436
Yeah, it can be universal, especially for the solo travelers out there.

00:29:18.436 --> 00:29:21.126
You know, be very careful.

00:29:21.146 --> 00:29:40.328
Going on your own, the buddy system is always the best, but if you're going to go alone, be very careful right and yeah okay, all right, yeah, I'll just send me that link and I'll put it in the show notes for your ebook there and um yeah we'll uh post that, get this uh episode here, probably in a couple weeks, probably about two weeks.

00:29:40.388 --> 00:29:51.626
I'll do this episode and put it up there, since it's don't want to wait until end of summer and post the summer preparedness, so we'll get this one posted up fairly quickly.

00:29:51.626 --> 00:29:55.507
